Charismatic Owls

Hello! There’s something about owls. I’ve loved them since I was a very young child, and the very first prize I ever won in my life, incidentally, was a jute owl toy. The sagacity of owls has long been chronicled in every work of fiction I’ve ever come across, and who can ignore the hypnotic depth of those eyes?

The theme for the #magneticmagicnail collaboration this month was owls. Magnetic owls, see what I was thinking with that title? (Insert eye roll and some self-deprecating humour)

The base is two coats of Masura Blooming Lotus, a navy base with green magnetic shimmer and blue-purple flakies. I applied the first coat as usual, and then magnetized the second coat.

I topped the thumb, index and pinky fingers with ILNP Glory, a red-orange-gold flakie topper, to complement the colours of the owls on the other two nails. On my ring and middle fingers, I reverse-stamped an image from Moyra Wallpaper (plate-35). I used Maybelline Bold Gold to stamp with and then filled in the owl images with CND Vinylux Fine Vermillion, a rich metallic rust polish. I finished off with a matte top coat.

A simple mani, but I was quite happy with it. I love magnetic polishes; 2019 has been about exploring that love. My collection of Masura polishes has grown manifold this year. I have been playing with magnets, but I keep going back to the classic cat eye using my strong neodymium bar magnet (bought off Amazon). I’m still learning to keep a sharp line, and hope to be more versatile in my use of magnets as I go along. My first magnetics, a couple of polishes by Tonic, remain my most reliable and well-loved. The depth and dimension of magnetic polish is difficult for other regular polishes to stand up to, in my opinion.

Have you tried magnetic polish? Do you love them as much as I do? Which is your favourite? What kind of magnets do you like using? Let me know in the comments.

I had barely begun to catch up with the backlog of manis before a short pause made me fall way behind again. I’ll be traveling soon, but will try to keep posting them in order to catch up. I’ll try to be back soon with another mani. Until then, stay warm but keep your cool! Toodles!

  1. Well, these are just lovely. The base polish looks fantastic. Haven’t tried magnetized polishes as of late, although a number of years ago I had a Sally Hansen that did alright for itself – the magnet wasn’t too powerful, but it created some cool stripes on my mani, very neat. Now I’m seeing all these crazy magnets that create all sorts of cool effects and I have no idea what’s going on! I should probably get with it. In more ways than one!
