A Bony Lad

Hello, there, a very good morning to you! Today’s post is an unplanned, spur-of-the-moment one – which means that you get to see what I’m wearing on my nails right now! Aren’t you starting the day off right??? 🤪

I was wearing Tonic Polish Sweet Pea on my nails yesterday when I decided to dive headfirst into the #clairestelle8 challenge on Instagram this month. I’ve been meaning to do so for a while, and all the Halloween prompts gave me the push I’d been lacking.

Now, a little about Sweet Pea. This polish came out as part of a Valentine’s quartet back in 2017. Ever since I got into Tonic – around the same time but it was gone before I’d caught on – I’ve been after it. I only found out about the thriving world of nail polish destashes on Facebook last year, and by that time it had become too much of a rarity and I was not ready to pay the extravagant asking prices for this polish. Last month, Tonic held their first ever prototype mystery sale – trios of random prototypes that may or may not have made it into production eventually. I lucked out and one of my protos was a beautiful, soft lilac polish with the ever-so-coveted unicorn pee (UP) pigment in it. Now, while I appreciate this pigment in certain forms, I’m not head over heels in love with it like many are. Someone in the Tonic Facebook group approached me when I posted a picture of said UP polish, and long story short, we agreed to swap it for Sweet Pea! Talk about win-win! I’ve been over the moon ever since!

Just look how gorgeous it is! The base is a soft minty jade green colour, with strong pink-peach-yellow shifting shimmer and a scattering of holo particles.

So, I was going about my day wearing this beauty on my nails, knowing the challenge had started the day before, when suddenly it hit me that life doesn’t always have to work out perfectly! I could stamp some skeletons (the prompt du jour) on what I was wearing, post my entry for day one late and proceed with the rest of the challenge on schedule! And that is how I arrived at this mani featuring someone’s sweet pea in the afterlife!

The hilarious image on my ring finger is from Creative Shop plate 151, as is the pile of skulls on the middle finger. The image of the bones on the remaining fingers and thumb is from Creative Shop plate 150. I kept it simple and stamped everything with Moyra black polish.

Just look at that stunning shimmer, will ya? Of all the Tonics I own, the ones containing this pink-peach-yellow shimmer are my top favourites!

Oh, and did you notice how the photos don’t look blurry and green and horrible anymore? Especially the macros? It’s because I finally bought my lens! I’ve been meaning to for a long time, and I’m so thrilled! I still have to figure out some logistics, like how to keep my finger steady when taking a close-up of one nail, but the difference in quality is mind-blowing! Guess there’s only so much a puny phone camera can do, that too one that has been chewed like a piece of gum by a toddler!

So, there you have it, spooky skeleton for day 1 of the challenge. I’ll be back on Saturday with the prompt of wicked witches. Until the next post, toodles!

Tell me what you think!
