31DC2017Weekly 11: Polka Dots

This week’s prompt for the 31DCWeekly is polka dots and there is nothing in the nail art sphere that makes me as happy & nostalgic as doing polka dot nails! As I’m sure is the case for many others, this was my doorway into the nail art world and I spent a good year using nothing but toothpicks, bobby pins & later, dotting tools, to create manicures. So here are my simple polka dot nails:

The base for this manicure is Tonic Polish Lunar Lust (see swatches & bottleshots of this polish in this post). I made the dots using a dotting tool and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in Heavy Metal, a light grey crème. Finally, I went back over some of the dots with ILNP Paradox, a beautiful polish that shifts from teal to blue to fuschia to purple. I topped it all off with two coats of top coat because I did a messy job of placing the dots & ended up with some raised ones.

I don’t know if it’s the delicate, glowing colour of the base, but this manicure reminds me of a pretty dress, and I wish I owned it! I also love that the flakies synced up with the shifting shimmer of the base, looking purple at the extreme angle when the base was purple, and blue at the other end when the base was radiating a blue glow! That, however, proved quite impossible to capture on camera!

And of course, I had to take a vogue shot. Luckily, I was able to capture both the blue and the purple shifts in this one. Also, I swear my thumb does not look this hairy in real life! 😀
