NOTW: Grassy Swirls

I couldn’t decide whether to name this manicure “grassy swirls” or “swirly grass”. Either way, that’s the visual I had in mind when I did this mani — wind blowing through a field of grass. I had started out hoping that the blue stamping polish would be more vibrant over and cover up more of the green base, but I like how it decided to turn out. Also, I was thrilled to discover this mani got featured by DRK Nails on Instagram! 😀

[Wow! That watermark is crazy large & opaque! Not so subtle… smh…]
The base is three coats of China Glaze Cha Cha Cha, and the stamping polish is Color Club Cold Metal. The image is from the DRK Nails plate, DRK-C. The DRK Nails website is currently under construction, so I have linked to an alternative site where you can buy them.

You might notice here, as in most of my pictures, a slight amount of tip wear. I’ve been thinking about this and all I can put this down to is the amount of cuticle oil I apply on my nails in between manis; I guess I don’t remove all the oil before applying base coat. I always experience what looks like tip wear within hours of applying polish, but surprisingly, it does not extend beyond this over a period of up to a week! I do wrap my tips while applying polish, so unless it’s the amount of typing I do, I blame the oil! If any of you have experienced this, or have hacks to deal with this, please let me know in the comments!

Finally, here’s my Vogue shot of the week (VSOW?). The prop is one of my all-time favourite brooches, a beautiful green & bronze scarab. I loved how perfectly it matches the base polish colour.

  1. Beautiful mani! So bright and springy. The tipwear thing happens to me sometimes especially with polishes that have thicker formulas, with certain topcoats. I’ve heard Seche Vite can cause shrinking of the polish; I’m thinking perhaps that could be what is going on?

    1. Thanks, Rachelle! That’s right, I’ve read the same about Seche Vite and that is what I was wearing over this mani. I’m still a little confused bc this seems to happen no matter what top coat I use. Might have to try out a few others… What do you use?
