It’s Day 13 of the nail art challenge and today’s prompt was something I’d been fearing for a while: animal print. I know animal prints have been quite the rage for years and years (actually forever!), but this is something I have never liked on anything other than the particular animal to which the print belongs! Before this challenge, I very much doubted that I would ever do animal print nails, but that was the challenge.
I decided to go with a snakeskin pattern for this. This was definitely a surprise to me: I quite like this look! It’s not obviously snake-y, but you can see it’s inspired by that (at least I think so) 🙂
For this look, I started off with a base of dark grey metallic polish (Maybelline Color Show in Home Sweet Chrome). If you look at the pictures, you’ll see this only shows up as the lines in between the pattern. Over that, I stamped with three different colours marbled together — a bright medium blue, navy blue and white (Sally Hansen CSM in Style is Eternal and Dark Hue-Mor and Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in White On respectively). Next, I filled in some of the diamond-shaped spaces with yellow, blue and white on the ring and the middle finger. I think these two fingers turned out nice enough, but I prefer the plain three better — I think the snakeskin effect is more obvious on those. What do you think?
Doing my nails this time was a big boost in my self-esteem, which was quite shaken after the disastrous few attempts at doing stripes – I was beginning to wonder when/how/why I had lost the ability to paint my nails, stamp, use a brush, exert any form of motor control, etc.
I’ve actually been doing some nails ahead of time during the last two days, using both hands to do two prompts at a time. I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought of that before! I’m already nearly caught up! I’ll be posting one look a day because I don’t want to bombard you with posts, but I’m kind of relieved to have caught up and to give my nails — and my brain — a little bit of a break. I feel quite exhausted!
If you would like to join in this weekly nail art challenge, post your pictures on your blog or other social media and tag the picture with the hashtag #31dc2016weekly. Secondly, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know I usually add new nail art pictures to the gallery. I will not be doing this with the weekly challenge. These posts will all be available under the nail art tab [Nails → Nail Art → 31DC2016], and will not be displayed in the gallery.
